Grey Phase: Define a SDG problem

Launch Workshop (April 22-23)- Find a focus and plan your fieldwork
In the launch workshop, students will gain the ability to view sustainability critically within their social, economical and cultural context, and plan their own field study in this context.
SDG#6 or SDG#12 are both big questions, therefore each team will need to find a focus aligned to their own interest. To make the topic of choice more “authentic”, in this case meaning related to their own everyday life, students will gather their own observations in their life related to SDGs to settle on one specific focus.
Week 1 (April 24-30) - Implement your field study
In this stage, students will conduct their own field study following the design they proposed in the workshop, as well as the guidance from this book. Students are encouraged to create their own fieldwork plans based on their topic and questions. Both numerical and narrative data are important for a comprehensive and in-depth understanding.
Week 2 (May 1-7 ) - Wrap up and improve you study, analyse and report
Students will integrate their first fieldwork results, improve and repeat the study if necessary and finally redefine their initial questions with their analysis of the data. The analysis should address important findings that emerge from the data and how these results reframe the initial topic and questions of the students.
At the end of this stage, students should write a Phase Grey Report following the template.

Yellow Phase: Analyse the SDG problem

Week 3 (May 8-14 )- Approach and break down the problem
Students re-examine their SDG topic and questions brought from the Grey Phase, and identify how their questions can relate to knowledge and references from different disciplines, with the help from this guidebook. Divide into several small groups inside the team to work from different disciplines.
Week 4 (May 15-21 ) - Build knowledge map from different disciplines
Students learn and exercise academic skills to research the existing knowledge and state-of-the-art solutions to the problem: learn about available technologies and the different approaches that different disciplines have towards SDGs. Try to build a interdisciplinary knowledge map from the reference they found.
Week 5 (May 22-28 ) - Interdisciplinary debate: A Final Converge!
Interdisciplinarity is a very important tool while working in a group and it is a core value of SDGo. In this week, student will need to integrate the different knowledge in a debate and learn how to really reach meaningful results in an interdisciplinary setting.
At the end of this stage, students should write a Yellow Phase Report following the template.

Red Phase: Solve the SDG problem

Week 6 (May 29-June 4 ) - Thinking through making
Low-tech prototyping methods entails using materials such as, gaffa tape, paper and wires. According to the discoveries students made in Phase Grey and Yellow, students will use the techniques introduced during this week to create a 3D representation of their concepts. The aim for this week is to make as many 3D/physical ideas as possible. Just for this week forget about think and Make, Make, Make!
Week 7 (June 5-June 11 ) - Realize your design
This week, as a team, students will use all available help, materials, tools (3D printers, hardware tools, Lego blocks, mobile phones, computers, daily necessities ...), to create their final version of the idea. The actual form of the prototype includes and is not limited to physical product such as machine, tools, or creative display such as public art/performance, and online tools such as apps and software.
Week 8 (June 12-June 18 ) - Finalize and present it in the public
Students will set key performance indicators for their product, and test the validity of the prototype of their outcome. how does my prototype sit within the real world? - go test it in the real world. Students will be introduced to communication skills and methodologies to help them
